DP83867IR: FLP in Mirror Mode & MDIX/MDI

Part Number: DP83867IR

Hi Expert,

We found a phenomena of Auto-Negotiation by accidentally set DP83867RGZ Pin47 to an unknown state by MCU. When DP83867 is doing Auto-Negotiation, FLP is sending from channel TX_x_C and TX_x_D. The link partner is sending FLP through TX_x_A and TX_x_B.

When this happen, TX_x_A/B/C/D are sending FLP simultaneously, link cannot be established successfully. We think this is caused by Mirror mode. Need to confirm root cause.

Mirror mode:

A => D

B = > C

MIDX:

A = >B

C = >D

Based on 802.3, DP83867 can detect FLP with channel A & B, but not channel C & D. So if FLP is on channel C & D, then link cannot be established. Is it true?  Or there is other mechanism causes this problem?

Thanks.

Zhou

  • Hello Zhou,

    You interpretation is correct, if mirror mode is activated on the DP83867 PHY then FLP will be sent and detected on channel C, D. If the Link Partner is sending FLP on channel A and B then the Link will not be established. If the DP83867 board is not designed for mirror mode then I would recommend you to turn off mirror mode by clearing bit '0' on register 0x31 in DP83867 and issuing a soft restart command by writing 0x4000 to register 0x1F.
