TPS65981EVM: Displayport + USB 3 Data

Part Number: TPS65981EVM

Hi Team,

when testing 2 TPS65981EVMs + DPExpention board my customer can't get it to fully work. One of them has on switch set to "1" as marked in the users guide while the other has all switches on "0". I want a DP and a USB 3.0 over one Type-C Cable. On the other side I do get DP but only USB 2.0. When measuring at the MUX the USB 3.0 doesn't seem to pass the MUX. Should this work with the standard firmware provided? With no USB Type-C Sniffer or anything this is hard to debug. What steps would you recommend to find out what is the blocking point?

Thank you for your time!

Best regards,

Simon Forstner

  • Hi Simon,

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble. I'll get back to you with a response tomorrow.
  • Hi Simon,

How were you able to measure the MUX? What did you measure on the MUX? I tried to pass USB3.1 data from the DP exapsion board to my PC and was able to do so by using the same method that was described above ("Re-Flash EVM Firware (Recovery)" on the Device tab in the Application Customiztion Tool).
  • Hi Aramis,

You had Display Port plugged in and still got USB 3.1 Signal through? With the standard firmware the EVM ships with or did you change anything?

My customer is measuring USB 3.1 Signals at the input shortly after plugging in but can't measure anything after the mux that why they think the mux is in a wrong configuration. What signals should be on the mux for the right configuration?

    Best regards,
    Simon
  • Hi Simon,

I did get both the DP working and USB 3.1 as well on my end. The firmware template that I used was the UFP for the Monitor and memory stick and I recommend to load this template as well. Also, try loading the DFP template for the host side (look below). Do not use the standard "re-flash" firmware because it seems not to work with both DP and USB 3.1.

One last thing, how are you measuring the mux signal (Voltmeter, GUI, etc.)?

If this answers your question, PLEASE select  This resolved my issue.
