DS15BR401: max pkg power capacity

Part Number: DS15BR401

Hi Team,

In Datasheet page4, pkg power capacity shows 1.64W for TQFP, and 4.16W for WQFN.

If we do the math MAX Vcc * MAX Icc = 3.6V * 215mA = 0.774W.

it doesn't add up, so customer would like to know what is pkg power capacity number meaning?

Thanks.

Andrew

  • Hi Andrew,

The maximum package capacity is related to the thermal performance of the package and the maximum junction temperature of the DS15BR401.

At room temperature of 25C, a theta JC of 30 degrees C/W, and a maximum junction temperature of 150C.  The most power that the package can dissipate is 4.16 Watts.  While dissipating 4.16W at a temperature of 25C, the junction temperature will rise to 150C.

The worst case DS15BR401 power is well below this number.  At a worst case of 0.774W and temperature of 85C, the junction temperature should rise to approximately 85C + (0.774W x 30 C/W) = 108C

    Regards,

    Lee
