TLK110: Link Loss Recovery

Part Number: TLK110

Ethernet team,

In the TLK110, Register 0x0009, has a bit called Link Loss Recovery in bit 7.  Can you please describe what the trade-offs are with enabling this?  Are there specific types of applications where you are more likely to use this?

Thanks,
Darren

  • Hi Darren,

Recovery 1 = Enable Link Loss Recovery mechanism. This mode allow recovery from short
interference and continue to hold the link up for period of additional few mSec till
the short interference will gone and the signal is OK.
0 = Normal Link Loss operation. Link status will go down approximately 250µs from
    signal loss

As register description explains, if you expect lot of noise and want to reciever to wait for more time before declaring link loss, this bit can be used.

BTW, are you starting a new design or you are evaluating it on a existing design ?

    Regards,
    Geet
  • Hi Geet,

Thanks for getting back to me on this.  This is for a customer who has already designed with the part and is seeing Link Loss in initial field testing.  They're trying different solutions.  I was hoping someone might be able to explain this a little more in terms of trade-offs.  I read the description in the datasheet, and it looks like there's no reason to disable this feature.  I'm sure there are cases you would want to disable it though, so I was interested in understanding when that would be.

    Thanks,

    Darren
