TUSB1002: Some USB 3.0 Sticks are not recognized

Hello,

some USB sticks are not detected on Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.10.

If I use a USB port without Redriver the sticks are recognized. The eye diagrams, with the Redriver, look very good. I have already inserted a 330nF capacitor in the receiving branch (before the Redriver). No success. What else can I do?

Hello,

The first thing to do is to configure the equalization to match the channel loss and avoid over equalization. If possible please run electrical tests (eye-diagram measurements), it is possible that the channel has no need of a re-driver.

I use EQx Setting #3 (3.5dB/8.2dB) for TX, EQx Setting #3 (3.5dB/8.2dB) also for RX and CFGx Setting #8 (+2dB - 1V). Eye Diagramm attached.

What do you think?

Hello Andreas

We recommend to configure to start with the lowest configuration (EQ_1_2 = 00 = 1.9/5.5 dB) Setting #1, and for VOD linear range and DC gain setting #1.
Please, try with this configuration and let me know your results.

EQ1 and EQ2 -> 00 (1.9dB/5.5dB), -> #1

and

CFG1 and CFG2 -> 00 (CH1 +1dB/ CH2 0dB), -> #1 (CH2 is the transmit Channel, CH1 is the receive Channel)

=> no success!

I have further Information for you. With Linux Ubuntu it works perfect. Also a 10GBit/s device. With Windows 10 only some USB Stick were recognized.

Can you try disabling USB3.1 gen 2 on the chipset? I've seen some compatibility issues with some USB3.0 Gen1 drives even directly connected to the PCH without any redriver when Gen 2 is enabled.

I disabled Gen2 Speed at the host and the failing USB-Sticks were now recognized.

Hi Andreas,
That confirms it's a host LFPS interop issue and not caused by the TUSB1002. TUSB1002 does not alter LFPS signaling.
