I want to hook up PCIe gen 3 (8 Gb/s) to a device that does not support link training. Idea is to use the DS80PCI402 "loopback" function to loopback the root complex RX to TX and also loopback the endpoint RX to TX. This "might" trick the root complex / endpoint in going through the link training....essentially training to itself. Then, after link training, switch to non-loopback mode to do the Gen 3 transfers (I might need to adjust the RX equalization and TX deemphasis a bit). Do you think this will work? I notice the DS125BR401A (higher speed) does not have loopback function. I believe DS80PCI402 is only devices that has loopback function, correct?
Hi Joe,
I do not think this will work, but I have not tried it. I think there may be some level of compliance pattern that results from this "loopback", but it is not likely to produce an active link.
