TUSB9261: Advanced Descriptors Editor

Part Number: TUSB9261

Hello, How I can change the values of "grayed-out" descriptors in TUSB926x Flash Burner? I need to change the values of bDeviceClass and bDeviceSubClass. USB IF reserves 0xFF for vendor specific Device Class and this is what I need for my application.

Thank you,

Victor.

  • Hello Victor,

The class and sub-class descriptors on the device, identify the TUSB9261 as a USB Mass Storage device.

If you change them to a vendor specific device class, the operating system won't load the USB Mass Storage device drivers on the device; and, in consequence, the device will not  operate as intended (since the firmware was designed to operate as a USB mass storage device)

That being said, there is no way to change those descriptors using the "TUSB926x Flash Burner". If you need the TUSB9261 to enumerate as a vendor specific device and perform differently to its original design, it can certainly be done; but you will need to develop your own firmware for that.

    Regards,

    Jorge

  • Hello, I do not understand why do I need to write my own firmware (and I believe TI does not provide any support for this, such as USB or SATA libraries or at least the programming models for in-chip hardware). All I'm asking is to be able to change the USB descriptors. According to documentation the USB Descriptors are programmed in the SPI Flash in the beginning of the chip and completely independent from FW itself. If Flash burner cannot do it at least TI could provide the detailed mapping of the descriptors area in the SPI flash - what bytes correspond to each descriptor and how the checksum is calculated. Well... I did not want to wait for the answer and figured it out myself. Honestly, the support for this chip is just disappointing. How many times people were reporting that it is very tricky to make the Flash burner SW work. I tried myself at least 6 different PCs from XP to Win7 before I found one which loads the flash driver correctly.

    Regards,

    Victor.
