DS90UA101-Q1: Looking for the FPD-Link III equivalent to the DS15BA101/DS15EA101 chip-set

Part Number: DS90UA101-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS15BA101, , DS15EA101, DS90UA102-Q1

I am working on something called a floor box in the AV community. This takes a bunch of audio inputs and puts them on a single cable then sends them to another box that breaks them up and DACs everything so it can go into an audio mixer. I am using the DS90UA101-Q1/DS90UA102-Q1 as my SER/DES and need something like the DS15BA101/DS15EA101 chip-set to get the signal over a few hundred feet of coax. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, this is the first time I have tried to design something like this. I was thinking the DS15BA101/DS15EA101 chip-set might work but Wikipedia scared me with "FPD-Link III stops using LVDS technology and uses only CML", making me concerned that tis might not work at all or may only work after this interface has been scienced beyond my capability to science things.

  • No worries, there are no stupid question(s)...

The required 0.1uF AC cap will eliminate the difference in common mode difference between the CML and LVDS.

The DS90UA101/102 will lose the backchannel with the DS15BA101/DS15EA101 in between the DS90UA101 and DS90UA102 though.

  • The DS15BA101 datasheet says common mode voltage should be VDD - positive voltage swing, DS90UA101-Q1 has no common mode DC on the output and a nominal differential voltage swing of 680mV so I drew the bias to bring a signal with no common mode to the DS15BA101 recommended common mode. I don't know if this is necessary because you are saying the AC coupling caps will handle everything, but I don't know if just sticking them together with AC caps and a 100 ohm resistor between the differential pairs really jives with the DS15BA101 datasheet recommendation as far as input common mode. I would like to confirm that you are saying I can interface these things without a bias network. Thank you for your prompt feedback on the initial post, it took me a while to write back because I had to do some research and get my facts straight so I don't waste everybody's time.
