DS2003: Darlington Driver EOL Replacement

Part Number: DS2003

I have a question regarding the equivalent circuit diagram shown in the DS2003 datasheet at the top of page 5.  This diagram does not show a diode connected between ground and the output (emitter to collector).  However, the replacement alternatives for this part such as ULN2003AI show a diode connected between ground and the output (emitter to collector).  See ULN2003AI datasheet section 8.2.

ULN2003AI

Did the DS2003 part always have a diode connected between ground and the output (similar to parts such as ULN2003AI) that just wasn't shown in the datasheet block diagram?  If not, are there any DS2003 alternatives that do not have the diode connected between ground and the output?

  • Hi,

Welcome to E2E! I was unable to see the pictures you attached, but I understand the diodes you are describing.

The diode from emitter to collector in the ULN2003A is used as a parasitic structure, ensuring normal operation. The DS2003 does not contain these parasitic diodes, but the ULN2003A diode should not cause any issues unless you are forward biasing this diode with a reverse circuit.

All of our newest low side drivers contain this emitter - collector diode for parasitics. If you can tell me more about the application and operating conditions, perhaps I can suggest another device if the ULN2003A does not fit your requirements.

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang
