TPS2553: Two-Level Current-Limit Circuit, when the lower limit is 75mA and the higher one is 500mA

Part Number: TPS2553

Hi. I'd like to use a dual current limit with the TPS2553, as described , but the lower limit should be 75mA , when the ILIM is directly connected to the IN pin.

What is the correct way to make a dual current limit in this case ?

Thank you.

  • Hi, Alex,

You can use a FET or relay to toggle ILIM pin from resistor to Vin pin.

  • Hi Bob,
    Thank you for the answer.
This is an obvious solution, I was thinking of, but the switching between the limits will left ILIM pin floating for a moment and I afraid it might cause the undesirable effect on part's behavior .
  • Hi, Alex,

Firstly, you don't need to remove ILIM resistor. Just switch Vin on ILIM resistor should be ok. So ILIM pin will not float.

Secondly, from design theory, floating the ILIM pin and connecting ILIM pin to Vin will both set limited current at 75mA.

You can try both way, but I suggest you connect ILIM to Vin. This way is recommended in datasheet, so it must was validated before and it's guaranteed.

    Bob
