TPS2544: Second Thermal Sensor

Part Number: TPS2544

Dear Team,

I want to know the behavior of the FAULT pin. What kind of situation will drive FAULT to low?

From the datasheet, I think over-current condition and the fist sensor should include all the conditions, am I right?

I don't understand why we need the second thermal sensor?

Thank you.

  • Hi Jim,

The fault pin is driven low when an over-current or over-temperature event occurs.

The first thermal sensor will only trip when the TPS2544 is in a current-limit condition.  Therefore, the first thermal sensor ensures that when the device is current limiting, it will not exceed 135 degrees Celcius.  The second thermal sensor will trip at 155 degrees Celcius which could occur without the device entering a current-limit state.  So the TPS2544 could be operating correctly but for some reason get hot (due to environment etc.) and therefore the second thermal sensor would trip at 155 degrees Celcius.

    Regards,

    Donovan
