LMH1980: Difference between device family

Part Number: LMH1980
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH1981, LM1881

Hello,

What is the main difference between LMH1980 and LMH1981 function wise and electrical wise? From my understanding, the customer can utilize these two parts for video genlock purpose and if they only use HSOUT/VSOUT/OEOUT, then the two parts are interchangeable (although not pin2pin).

Is this correct or am I missing something? Thank you!

Regards,

Ryan B.

  • Hello Ryan,

The main difference between these two devices is the packaging. One is smaller so if form factor is key the 1980 is likely a better choice.

  • Hi Simon,

Thanks for your answer. I was comparing the datasheets between the two devices, and it seems that the LMH1981 has improved jitter performance on the HSync signal. It's mentioned repeatedly in the datasheet, while not in the LMH1980 datasheet.

LMH1981 Datasheet: "HSync features very low jitter on its leading (falling) edge, minimizing external circuitry needed to clean and reduce jitter in of HSync subsequent clock generation stages."

AN-1681 App Note: "This application report discusses the LMH1980’s advantages over the LM1881 and considerations for designing the LMH1980 into current LM1881 sockets. In broadcast and professional video systems where timing jitter is a critical system parameter, another sync separator, the LMH1981, offers the best jitter performance while supporting all SD and HD analog video standards."

Do we have any information comparing this improved jitter on the LMH1981 compared to the LMH1980?

    Thank you!
    Ryan B.
  • Dear Ryan,

I do not and due to age of these devices, do not have access to design team .
