Hello;

I am updating a handheld instrument that has a USB type C connector. I am using the USB power to charge the battery. It is safe till 24V - BQ25700.

So,, to make the charging faster, I am looking for the simplest possible solution to tell the PD host to send the most power it can; 15 or 20V, 3A.

Can anybody, please identify a part or solution that, preferrably, is passive - if possible, does not need to communicate with the processor?

The input power goes to a little PCB, that does not have communication lines with the processor. I would prefer not to modify the cabling and the rest of the HW.

Let me try to re-phrase the question:

Can anybody help me find a simple solution with a sink controller that can be used to charge the device's battery while the device and its processor are off?

The TPS65981 can definitely do the job, however, with its 56 pins, it seems to be an overkill. How about TUSB320?

Steve,

The TUSB320 does not support PD so you would only be able to get 5V/3A max with that device. If you want to sink PD power levels up to 100W, you would need a PD controller. The TPS65981 is the "simplest" PD controller offered by TI.

Thanks, but I simply cannot accept that the simplest solution has 56 pins (at least 80% pins useless for my application).
How about TUSB422?

Hi Steve,

The TUSB422 requires an external micro-controller for PD. You would need to write the PD stack on that micro-controller in order to sink PD voltages.
