DS92LX1621: Can I operate my chip at a lower clock speed?

Part Number: DS92LX1621

I've been struggling to understand the specification of 10-50MHz for the DS92LX1621 chip.

I have an application that needs to serialize 16 serial input streams to a single channel for transmission over USB to the host device.

This device seems perfect as it does a 16:1 serial conversion in a simple no-frills package.

My data streams operate at 4MHz though, less than the minimum 10MHz specified by the chip.

The only reason I could imagine for this is if the data is capacitively coupled to the chip dues for the purposes of ESD protection or something, but this seems a bit unreasonable.

What is preventing me from operating the chip at a clock of 4MHz, and what are the alternatives if it won't work?
