TPS65981EVM: TPS65981EVM with BC1.2 Charger

Part Number: TPS65981EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65981

Hi,

I have two tps65981evm boards up and running. One I have configured as DFP (Source) and one as UFP (Sink) I have negotiated different VBUS power profiles (5V,9V,15V,20V) on VBUS between the two and it works fine. But when I connect a USB BC1.2 charger without USB power delivery controller I can’t get VBUS higher than 5.0V but the charger does support 5V,9V,12V…  How to get this working and what firmware settings are required? Currently the Charger are detected as SDP device and USB BC v1.2 connection is valid (output from the Power Status register located at offset 0x3f). The charger used is Samsung EP-TA300.

  • Hi Jonas,

The TPS65981 only supports BC1.2 with 5V contracts up to 2.4A. BC1.2 does not support higher voltages than 5V. The charger you are using probably also supports "Quick Charge" which is a different charging protocol that is not supported by the TPS65981.

    Thank you,
    Eric
