DP83848I: expand the TPI(TD+/TD-) to drive 8 channel optical modules

Part Number: DP83848I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83822IF

Dears,

Heare I would like to expand the PHY interface to drive the 8 channels optical modules,

We just want to expand the TD+/TD- to 8channels, could you please help suggest which part can be used to acheive this request?

I am thinking whether we can use the LVDS multiplexer device can be used to achive this solution? thanks.

Best Regards

  • Hello Iven,

DP83848I does not support 100Base-FX standard which is the standard for 100Mbps fiber ethernet. I would recommend you to review DP83822IF. It is qualified for 100Mbps fiber ethernet and rated for industrial temperature.

Generally, a single 100Base-FX fiber transceiver is used with 100Base-FX Ethernet PHYs. This type of Fiber Transceivers will have a dedicated transmit and receive channel. Connecting it to 8 separate optical modules would impact signal integrity and may not work. Is a single fiber transceiver solution acceptable? If not can you explain why a 8 module application is required?

  • Hi Aniruddha,

thanks for your comments. I got the wrong p/n and the correct p/n we are selecting is the DP83822IF.

But the key request is how to drive 8 channels optical modules with 1 DP83822IF? which looks like we want to add a device between DP83822IF and optical modules to expand the ouptut connection with optical modules.

In this application, we don't need the receive channel from optical module and just need the transmit from PHY to optical module.

you can see the parts from the other product line as below for the Ethernet retimer/repeater/mux... so I want to ask you expert to suggest a part to acheive this request. I am thinking about the LVDS multiplexer to acheive 1 LVDS(TD+/-) -> 8 LVDS(TD+/-)...

  • Hi Iven,

DP83822 was validated for ethernet compliance and to work with 100Mbps fiber ethernet transceivers. In theory a LVDS receiver which can accept a 100Base-FX signal should work with the PHY but this will have to be checked on the customer side. Since only transmit side is used, this will actually depend on receiver of the LVDS multiplexer.

Could you tell me how the receiver is connected? What is the end application in this case?
