TUSB9261-Q1: Additional questions from my customer

Part Number: TUSB9261-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB9261,

Hello Roberto(TI),

The following is an additional question from my customer.
I am sorry many times,Would you please give me your answer?

Q1.Regarding boot from external flash memory after reset release,
When I asked the time taken from reset release to Boot completion, I received the following answers.

 (Previous answer)
There is no a specific value for this time because this depend of several variant,
following the section 7.3.1.1 General Functionality of TUSB9261 Datasheet,
you can observe this time will depend in the SPI flash memory that you are using,
the Firmware size used, the Operating system that is loading the USB and mass storage driver, if it’s configured as BOT only or UAS, etc…

I can understand there are differences due to Flash Memory and FW,
but I do not understand why there are differences depending on OS, Storage, Driver.
(Does the host need access to TUSB9261-Q1 during Boot?
(I understand that Boot will be executed automatically after canceling reset.

Q2.Regarding the specification of Watch Dog of TUSB9261-Q1, when I asked before,
Watch Dog is used for FW, and we received reply that the customer has no relation.
If Watch Dog is executed as for FW, I think that both SATA and USB can not communicate.
In this case, will a reset be generated inside the device and will Boot be automatically executed again?
If Watch Dog is running and communication becomes disabled, I am concerned about whether it is necessary to reset from the host side.

Q3.Regarding the use of UART terminal, when I asked before, UART was used for Debug of FW,
Default is Enable by FW, but please tell me the recommended terminal handling.
Since I think there is a pull-up inside the device, can I handle it to Open?

Q4.The consumption current of TYPICAL is written in "HIGH SPEED USB POWER CONSUMPTION" of the data sheet,
but when I asked to tell us about current consumption of MAX before, I received the following answers.

  (Previous answer)
we can’t provide a specific maximum value since this will differ on
the task performed by the device as it can be easy configured through Firmware it can have may different customizations.

Then, Could you tell me the current consumption of MAX when running with "TUSB926x_FW_v1.05.bin" of the standard FW provided from TI?

Q5.Can I get an internal register map of the TUSB9261-Q1 device?
There is no purpose now, but I want it as information.

Best Regards,Orobianco

  • Hello,

Q1; The host doesn't need access to the TUSB9261 during the TUSB9261 boot but the OS needs to load the Mass Storage driver in order to be able to start any USB to SATA transaction.

Q2; As we mentioned the watchdog is used for some specific tasks in the FW, you don't it is used just like a "clock", but it doesn't mean it will block the TUSB9261 functionality (USB or SATA) and you don't need to make any reset from the host.

Q3; Yes you can leave the UART lines floating.

Q4; the data we have for the default firmware re the same than the typical table located in the datasheet.

Q5; Unfortunately, we can't provide it, if you have something that you would like to change in specific let us know.

    Regards,
    Roberto
