The left hand option helps conserve board space if the layout design does not require high voltage or isolation.

I'm afraid not. The left side will occupy larger space. Width =1.55+5.4 > 1.4 + 5.5

You are correct. My apologies.

After looking into this, the HV/Isolation pattern needs to maintain the same area as the IPC-7351 Nominal version.
In order to achieve basic isolation of >4mm creepage and clearance, the distance between the pads needed to be increased. Therefore to maintain a similar area, the pad lengths had to be shortened.

Going back to your question:

To my knowledge, the left side does not offer significant advantages over the right side. Either land pattern can be used for low-voltage applications.
