UCC21222-Q1: can be used for Back to Back High Side N-CH FETs driving ?

Part Number: UCC21222-Q1

Hi Team

I would like to use UCC21222-Q1 for driving Back to Back High Side N-CH FETs for BMS application

; either common drain or common source as below.

my question is UCC21222-Q1 can be used as below with one floating supply ?

let me expect BU's quick confirm.

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for reaching out. This configuration will be okay for the UCC21222-Q1, there is no issue sharing the supply between VDDA and VDDB. However my concern is by connecting the source of the two MOSFETs in the common drain configuration you have effectively shorted the two sides of the switch together (BATTERY+ is now connected directly to I/O 2). It is okay if it is connected as common source (direction of CFET and DFET flipped) and VSSA/VSSB connected to the source node in between the FETs.

  • Hi William

    nice catch.

So, for common drain, we needs two seperate floating supply for VDDA/VSSA and VDDB/VSSB respectively.

for common sourcem we needs just one floating supply connected to VDDA/VSSA and VDDB/VSSB together.

I will absolutely try WIN of UCC21222-Q1 for you. thanks.

  • Hi Paul,

Yes common drain as above will need two separate floating supplies due to the short between the loads. Common source does not have that issue. Either way there is no issue on the device level to share the supply.y
