TCAN1043-Q1: Question about CAN WAKE

Part Number: TCAN1043-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1043

Hi team,

I would like to confirm about how TCAN1043 behave under CAN-bus Wake use case.

As far as I see the datasheet, when TCAN1043 is in Sleep mode or Standby mode, the device could shift to standby mode and toggle INH =H only by Wake Up Pattern (and Wake Pin).

Q.1) This means, when ECU starts CAN communication between the ECU in Sleep/Standby mode, if Wake Up Pattern is not sent previously, the communication will fail.

Is it correct?

Q.2) Above scenario is compliant to ISO 11898-2?

 Best regards,

  • Hello Fujihara-san,

This is mostly correct, although it if possible to enter normal mode by driving EN and nSTB high as well (assuming the device is already fully powered). It should be noted as well that most normal CAN frames will contain data patterns that meet the requirements of a wake-up pattern. This means that although the system would not properly receive the first frame while in sleep mode, it will most likely be triggered to wake and then be able to correctly receive any subsequent frames.

This wake-up behavior is in line with the latest ISO 11898-2 standard.

    Regards,
    Max
