SN65DPHY440SS: Application problem with MIPI signal

Part Number: SN65DPHY440SS

Hi there,

My customer is working on a camera project which due to mechanical constraint, the distance between the CMOS sensor and the core chip is about 23cm.

My customer observes that the video quality is not good on SOME of their boards; however, the problem can be overcome if the distance is shortened.

Therefore, they turned to us and inquired about our MIPI retimer solution.

The maximum datarate required is 2.1Gbps; however, SN65DPHY440SS only supports up to 1.5Gbps.

1. Is there any other device suitable for this application?

2. If yes, where should they place this retimer? At the transmitter (CMOS sensor) or the receiver (Core chip)?

3. Is there any way to tell if this issue is related to the wire connection or PCB layout?

Thanks!

Best regards,

Roy Hsu

  • Unfortunately we do not support MIPI at 2.1 Gbps. In order to determine if the wire connection or PCB layout is the issue, an eye diagram should be taken before the wire connection. This will help to determine if the issue is jitter based or voltage swing losses in the traces are too large due too length.
