TPD4E05U06: NC Pin10 Connected to Pin 1 on TPS65986EVM

Part Number: TPD4E05U06

Hi,

My customer has the following question:

I have question about the TPD4E05U06 surge suppression device. In the datasheet, pins 6, 7, 9, and 10 are either not connected, optional straight thru routing or floating or grounded. And, the TPS65986-EVM schematic shows pins 1 and 10 connected to each other. I don’t understand how the NC pins are connected in the TP65986 Eval board schematic, see page 27 here www.ti.com/.../slvuan9a.pdf. What is the purpose of the NC pins?

Thanks,

Chuchen

  • Chuchen,

It is common for designers to connect the pin directly across from the pin connected to the diode to make the layout easier. If you look at section 10 figure 24 of the TPD4E05U06 datasheet you can see how it enables "flow through routing" which helps out to maintain signal integrity. The NC pins on the device are not internally connect, so they can be used in the best mode of operation.

    Regards,

    Cameron
