TPS65981: charging and transferring data with a mobile as a host

Part Number: TPS65981
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25740,

Hello All,

We are working on a new design with  Galaxy S8 (as a host) and we using USB  interface with it and the USB HUB (TUSB8044) by a Type C connector.

We need to add a Power Delivery for charging the phone so we can use charging and data transfer at the same time.

we already tested the TUSB321 and the TPS25740 and it's not working....

Now we'll try using the TPS65981, and we need to know how to connect the D+ D- from the USB HUB for data transfer with PD at the same time ?

Do I need to connect them directly to the TYPE C connector pins (A6,A7 / B6,B7) or do I need to connect them to the  TPS65981 ?

Can you help me with a reference schematic ?

attached PDF - "HW_block diagram_Description" of our project.

We using just one type C connector, from the USB HUB to the phone.

All the rest connectors are type A USB connectors.

Thanks.

  • Hi Hezi,

You would need to connect the D+ D- lines from the USB HUB to the USB_RP_P and USB_RP_N pins on the TPS65981. You would then connect the C_USB_TP, C_USB_TN, C_USB_BP, C_USB_BN pins directly to the Type-C connector. The TPS65981 would then handle the flip of the USB Cable and mux the data lines correctly to the type-C connector.
