TPS65982: TPS65982AB OVP response time

Dear expert,

My customer has a question on TPS65982AB. They want to know the response time for the OVP function. We cannot find it on datasheet. Could you kindly help to verify how long the response time is? Thanks!!!

    Hi Ann,

    This is a good question. I went ahead and tested this on one of our EVM boards. The response time for the OVP seems to be within nanoseconds.

    Here is my test setup:

    I set the OVP trip point to around 21.44V on VBUS in GUI for TPS65982. I went ahead and put a 22V power supply on VBUS on the source board.  

    The test result is shown below: we can see when VBUS hits 21.4V, the switch for PP_EXT shut off quickly very fast. the respond time is short and could be within nanoseconds. The timescale below is a 5us window.

    If you would like to test the OVP, I recommend to never exceed the 24V listed in absolute maximum ratings; otherwise it may break the TPS65982EVM.
