TPS65982: OVP function

Part Number: TPS65982

Hi Team,

My customer wants to know the details how the OVP funtion behaves. Could you follow the 4 questions below?

1. Does TPS65982 also watch VBUS pins for OVP even in source side operation?

2. Are the OVP function's settings also valid even in Non-PD operation?

3. Which register determines OVP threshold for Source side in both PD and Non-PD case?

4. Are there any registers to set spesific OVP voltage level like 0x28[bit 21:16, OvpTripPoint] for each PDOs?

Regards,

Takashi Onawa

  • Hi Onawa-san,

    1. Yes, OVP will still work when operating as a Source. It will also watch the VBUS pin for OVP when a Source.

    2. Yes, OVP will still work for non-PD devices. The OVP function watches VBUS and will trip if it is a certain percentage higher than the expected voltage. For a non-PD device, the expected voltage is 5V.

    3. OVP is configured in the System Configuration Register (0x28) by the "Over-Voltage Protection Usage" and "Over-Voltage Protection Trip Point" fields.

    4. We do not support setting a different OVP trip point for different PDOs. However, you could set the OVP trip point to a percentage of the expected value using the "Over-Voltage Protection Usage" field in the System Configuration Register (0x28).
