TCAN1051-Q1: S pin termination when unused

Part Number: TCAN1051-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1051

Hello,

The S pin of TCAN1051 is suggested connected to GND via a pulldown resistor when unused in the datasheet p.27.

But is the resistor really necessary? Can't it be connected directly to GND?

Thanks.

Regards,

Oguri

  • Oguri-san,

The resistor isn't absolutely necessary, and in fact, on the EVM for this device, the pulldown resistor value is 0 ohms, effectively a short.

This is recommended on the TCAN1042 to limit any possible leakage current from the internal pull-up, but the TCAN1051 has an internal pull-down, so you could even leave this pin floating if you wanted. However, the pull-down internally is quite weak (low current), so connecting it to GND externally will help mitigate any possible noise-coupling that could happen with leaving it floating.

    Regards,
