USB-C simple device without MUX

I am wondering if it is possible to design a simple USB-C device that can be connected to USB-C host but without on-board mux? I am talking about super-speed functionality, not 2.0. I looked through specs and as far as I see it, it should be - at least with passive cable, but have never seen any example... Any hints there?
