UCC5320: Can I use UCC5320S to drive IGBT which needs positive and negative bias?

Part Number: UCC5320

Hi,

we have UCC5320E which has VCC2, VEE2, so we can get bipolar output.

But in TIDA01606, S version UCC5320S is chosen for bipolar output shown below(+12V and -5V). So we can also use the S version for bipolar output, so what's the benefit for choosing E version?

  • Hello Howard,

For the UCC53x0 family, all devices can support bipolar operation as long as VCC2-VEE2 <= 33V.
The benefit of the E versions, is that they have a dedicated pin (GND2) for the gate drive common which is also where the output UVLO is referenced.

During bipolar operation, only the E version has its UVLO referenced to a common pin rather than the negative rail, VEE2. See Figure 59 in the datasheet.
