SN65HVD72: Are the drivers protected during contention?

Part Number: SN65HVD72

Hello All,

I have a new design in alpha test.  Someone miss-wired two SN65HVD72 units such that the drivers in both transceivers were held in contention for an extended time.  Supposedly, one or both transceivers are permanently damaged.  Can the SN65HVD72 drivers be damaged if held in contention?

Thanks,

Kevin

  • Kevin,

SN65HVD72 driver has current limit function (Ios 160mA). If the bus pins were miss-wired, current limiting could happen when both transceivers were on. It depends how long the devices are in such a state. It's possible that they get damaged. Please let me know if you have more questions.

    Regards,
