BQ24392: BQ24392 spec Table 1 says "Charge with 100mA" for CDP when GOOD_BAT is LOW, CHG_AL_N is LOW and CHG_DET is HIGH

Part Number: BQ24392

Hi,

I would assume that it is fine to charge with full current (up to 1500mA) when CHG_AL_N is LOW and CHG_DET is HIGH like also stated in BQ24392 spec Table 2. Spec Table 1 is saying that one can not charge from CDP with full current when GOOD_BAT is LOW.

Question 1: How do I distinguish DCP (with GOOD_BAT = LOW) from CDP (with GOOD_BAT = LOW)?

Question 2: Why shouldn't I charge with full current from CDP also when GOOD_BAT is LOW?

BR,

Pekka

  • Hi Pekka,

The BQ24392 uses the GOOD_BAT input to determine if it should connect the switch in SDP and CDP mode. If GOOD_BAT is low, the switch is not connected and the device should not consume more that Iunit of current (100 mA) per the USB Battery Charging 1.2 specification in CDP mode. The requirement for PDs with weak batteries to limit the charging current is derived from the USB BC 1.2 specification and it not a requirement imposed by the BQ24392 design.
