TUSB1002: Optimizing Eq Settings

Part Number: TUSB1002

Hi,

Prototyping the TUSB1002 in an active cable configuration.  I'm only able to get speeds in the range of USB 2.0.  I'm looking for a general procedure to optimize the eq settings and get the speed higher.

I don't have access to the proper equipment to measure the high speed data lines.  Any thoughts?

Regards,

Jake

  • Jake,

To analyze the high speed data lines looking at the data throughput from source to sink is an alternative to the eye diagram and will change with the EQ setting of the TUSB1002. Here is a link to a tool for looking at USB throughput: crystalmark.info/.../ .

You will need a source (CPU) connected to the active cable connected to a USB device (Thumbdrive will do). With this you will be able tune the EQ settings to a certain degree to get the system to work.
  • Thanks Malik,

I'm trying to picture the general flow here.  So just set the system up with a host and sink that can run at the full speed if allowed to then start at eq setting 1 and work your way up until you get the speed stops increasing?

    Regards,

    Jake

  • Jake,

That is correct. You may hit a point where there is too much EQ and the number of received packets will stop increasing or even decrease. However, with this test you may also want to test over a longer period of time to get a better idea of whats going on. EQ will not effect the speed at which data is sent, that is controlled by the source.
