TPS2511: TPS2511 question as /CS, I_limit

Part Number: TPS2511
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD1E10B06

Team,

I  have some question regarding TPS2511 as below.

1.       If they are not using /CS, then it can be leave open?

2.       when they set I_limt=1.5A, current will flow up to 1.5A or shut down the current if more high current above 1.5A is occurred? They will set 36kohm for Rlimit value.

3.       Does Device has ESD diode? Customer is considing to put additional ESD diode as TPD1E10B06 on Vbus/D+ and D- pin in order to pass 8kV Contact discharge. If you don’t think it is not necessary, pls let me know your advice.

Thanks

  • Hello Anthony,

    1. Yes, if they are not using the CS pin, then they can leave it floating

    2. Yes, that is how the ILIM_SEL pin works for the TPS2511. Based on the resistor value connected to the ILIM_SEL pin, the current will cut off at a certain current value. This info can be found on page 12 of the datasheet. If they are wanting to set a current limit at 1.5A, I would recommend using a 34k ohm resistor connected to ILIM_SEL instead of a 36k ohm

    3. No, the TPS2511 does not have any internal ESD  protection. Here is an application note that talks about ESD protection using the TPS2511. Think it will be helpful.
