DS125BR800A: SATA Gen2 and Gen3 Links

Part Number: DS125BR800A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS125BR820,

Hello,

In the customer's system, the total length is about one foot but it goes through a ton of interconnects.

  • CPU  --  Board-To-Board  --  Re-Driver  --  Board-To-Board  --  PCB Flex Cable  --  Board-To-Board  --  Re-Driver  --  External Connector  --  SATA Backplane Receptacle  --  SSD
    • They previously used the DS125BR820 but we weren’t getting any SATA Gen.3 link at all.
    • They then moved onto the DS125BR800A due to pin & package compatibility where it can link and perform at Gen.3, but Gen.2 will not work anymore (or it has other functional issues)

What steps can the customer take to troubleshoot and resolve these bugs? Thank you!

Regards,

Ryan B.

  • Hi Ryan,

In this application a single redriver would have been enough.  Having two in this space in addition to all the other channel segments is the likely cause of the issues.

It sounds like we should start with the DS125BR800A since it is currently in the system.

How is the customer controlling the device?

If it is register control, please dump all the registers.

If it is pin control, please send a schematic showing all the configuration pin settings

    Regards,

    Lee

  • Hi Lee,

    Thanks for your quick help.
The customer's design is using an EEPROM applied to both SATA ReDrivers

At the moment however, the engineer is experimenting in pin mode to make troubleshooting easier.

I have sent you both their CFG file and pin settings via email for privacy. Feel free to reply here on the forums.

    Regards,
    Ryan B.
  • Hi Ryan,

As this thread has gone offline, Lee and I will consider it resolved in the forum and continue the discussion offline.
