SN65HVD23: Industrial Interface Forum

Part Number: SN65HVD23

Hi,

I wanted to know the current required(max current consumption) for the below mentioned parts

SN65HVD233
SN65HVD234
SN65HVD235

Regards,

Karthik

  • Karthik,
There are a few scenario here. If the bus is in fault condition (for example, short to ground), the max current is Ios 250mA. In normal operation, in dominant case, the current is governed by the load and Vod. For example, a 1.5V voltage is generated on 60Ohm termination. The current from the IC is 25mA. With 6mA device power dissipation, the total is 31mA. If what you care is average current, the current from load is roughly half with 50% duty cycle. Please let me know if you have more questions.

  • Hi,

Out of the three part of the CAN transceiver which part is most suitable for Industrial application(along with reason).

    Karthik

  • Karthik,

The resistance load draws the most current. Assume the device generates 1.5V on a 60Ohm resistor. The current is 25mA. The device itself needs maximum 6mA, in active states. Since the data rate is low (<2Mbps), the current due to AC load is less than 1mA. Please let me know if you more questions.

  • Hi Hao,

How did you come to the conclusion that I=25mA for 1.5V output @ 60ohm load , Is there any formula to calculate the supply current?

What are the protections(transients, short circuit) that are to be given on the SN65HVD234 bus lines ?

Please can you share the recommended parts for protection or can I get a reference schematic for the above part.?

    Please suggest

     Regards,

    Karthik

  • Karthik,
25mA current comes by dividing 1.5V Vod by the termination resistance (60Ohm), which is drawn from the supply. The device comes with short protection. The maximum short current (Ios) is less than 250mA. For transient event protection like ESD, you can refer to this app note (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tidub36b/tidub36b.pdf). Please let me know if you have more questions.
