SN65HVD73: Max. Current Consumption

Part Number: SN65HVD73

Hi ,

I wanted to know the max current consumption for the SN65HVD73 part where my UART speed is 5Mbps Max.

I also wanted to know how the cable properties will affect the signal and power consumption factors of the device ?

It would be better if I get any technical document that can be referred.

Regards,

Karthik

  • Karthik,
You can refer to this app note (http://www.ti.com/lit/an/snoa233b/snoa233b.pdf) for the calculation. On top of IC power and load DC power, you can estimate load AC power by 2*2*C*f*Vcc*Vod. In which C is the differential capacitor of the bus pin, including device parasitic and load capacitor. In your case, this value varies with the cable length. f is half of the data rate. Vcc is 3.3V and Vod is about 2V depending on your termination resistance. It looks this load AC power is a very small value (compared to other power) unless the cable is pretty long. If this is the case, you can use table 7.6 on page 7 of the datasheet for estimation. Please let me know if you have more questions.

  • Hi Hao,

Thanks for your reply but the link of app note which you have shared is not opening. It displays an error message.

  • Karthik,

Sorry I fixed the link. Can you please check it again?
