DS90UB953-Q1: How to set STP mode

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP,

Hi team,

I have a question to use 953 with STP cable.

I am investigating the setting for using 953 on STP.

I got 953 and 954 evaluation boards, so I am using for reference.

In the Analog launch pad, there is a register that determines whether STP or Coax is used in Register 0x03 of 953, but it is reserved in the datasheet.

When actually using it with STP, is it not necessary to set the register of 953?

Please tell me if there are registers or external terminals to be set instead.

Best regards,

Tomoaki Yoshida

  • Let me add to that.
Datasheet dated "September 2017" had FPD_COAX and FPD_COAX_OV bits in the MODE_SEL register that have now been replaced by "Reserved" in the datasheet dated "February 2018".
How do we configure COAX or STP mode and how do we know in which mode it is if there is no status anymore?

    Regards,
    Jura
  • Yoshida-san,

The 953 & 954 EVMs are set to work with Coax by default. For STP you would need another connector on the board and the proper differential routing for the P & N terminals.

You do not need to set anything in the registers in ALP to configure for STP, since the device should still be able to transmit the data by default regardless if you are using STP or Coax (as long as you have the proper routing connections).

Please see section 8.2.1 in the DS90UB953-Q1 Datasheet for more info on setting up the differential routing for STP: www.ti.com/.../ds90ub953-q1.pdf

  • Hi Jonathan-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
I understan that it is not needed to set anything in the registers in 953.

    Thank you.
