Hot-Socketing or Hot-Swap SFP+

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS125BR111, SN65LVCP1414, DS100BR111, DS110DF111, DS125DF111

Hi,

I need to connect the SFP+(CML-interface,10G Ethernet) module to the FPGA trancievers(CML-interface) via the repeater. This connection must be hot-plugged(hot-swaped, hot-socketing) in accordance with the standard on SFP+(SFF-xxxx). This solution should have equalizer and output pre-cursor(pre-emphasis) or post-cursor(post-emphasis).

Tell me, which IC provides this condition?

For example, DS125BR111 or SN65LVCP1414 suited?

  • Hi Sergey,

For a 10GbE device, you may wish to consider either the DS100BR111 or DS125BR111. The DS100BR111 has a larger CTLE gain as well as de-emphasis (post-cursor) capability, while the DS125BR111 is an advanced linear repeater. If you are interested in a retimer solution with CTLE, CDR, and Tx de-emphasis, please reference either the DS125DF111 or DS110DF111.

    Thanks,

    Michael
  • I do not understand, does these transceivers support Hot-Socketing(hot plugging and unplugging) mode or not? Сan I remove or insert spf+ modules direct connected to transceivers in power-on mode?
  • Hi Sergey,

Yes, these devices can be used in hot-plug situations.

I recommend ensuring that your design incorporate proper filtering to protect against ESD or transient voltage events that may occur during a hot-plug event, especially if your system may be exposed to higher ESD voltages than the DS100BR111 is rated for. Note that the DS100BR111 pins have ESD protection up to +/-5 kV (HBM).

    Thanks,

    Michael
