TPS65982: TPS65982 schematic review

Part Number: TPS65982
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65983B, TPS65981, TPS65981EVM

Hi Sirs,

Sorry to bother you.

We have design TPS65983B, But we know 983B only for Intel reference schematic, so we will use TPS65982 in next schematic version.

Our application is use TypeC DP signal to turn on monitor

We have made mistake on schematic. We connect TPS65983B SPI pin to GND.

We couldn't burn in anything that will effect the 983B couldn't working on M/B.

Because it's urgent case and layout issue, we couldn't cut open these pin.

We have TPS65982 EVM on hand, so have any idea to make our board to work?

Such like use I2C Interface to add command by BIOS side on debug mode? or use TPS65982 EVM to jump from our board?
Any question and suggestion are welcome.

By the way, except SPI error, could you help double confirm our schematic again?

Soft remind, for now our board is TPS65983B, We just need use Type C DP to turn on monitor on this version. We will have follow your suggestion and use TPS65982 on next schematic version.

Many thanks!!

  • Hi Shucheng,

The TPS65983/B is only used for thunderbolt 3 reference designs by Intel. If you're not building a thunderbolt system, then the TPS65983/B is NOT recommended. I would recommend the TPS65981/2/6 devices.

I recommend getting your hands on one of our EVM boards, so that you can build your application on it. TPS65982EVM has a variable DC/DC that only sources 5V/12V/20V while the TPS65981EVM sources 5V/9V/15V/20V. I would recommend the TPS65981EVM, and it also comes with an FTDI board, which is needed to configure and flash register settings. TPS65982EVM does not come with a FTDI board, and you will have to order one in order to flash a image to the external memory.

If the SPI pins are connected to ground, unfortunately there is nothing we can do to flash the firmware; the board would have to be redesigned. Please use the TPS65981EVM for your new schematic reference.

Once the schematic is updated (with the TPS65981/2) feel free to re-post here and I’ll review it. Thank you!

I hope this helps and answers your question, PLEASE  select This resolved my issue

    Best Regards,

    Hao
