TPS65982: Application Circuit

Part Number: TPS65982

A customer is looking for USB Type-C™ and USB PD Controller Power Switch and High-Speed Multiplexer for our UFP sink application. Their unit will work in UFP sink mode only where it draws power from the DFP port.

As per our understanding, DFP port will first supply 5V. Later on using negotiations (on CC1 and CC2 lines), this voltage can be switched to 5/12/15 or 20V.

While checking TI website, I found the below part:

 http://www.ti.com/product/TPS65982

This can be used in DFP or UFP mode. The datasheet has an application circuit for DFP port.

  1. Can you please help in providing any UFP application circuit for this part?
  2. Also, can you please suggest any other suitable part along with application circuit for our design?

Thanks.

  • Hi Naser,

Firstly let me do some modification about voltage on VBUS.

In the beginning, there is no voltage on VBUS. When the sink attaches to the source, then 5V will be supplied . Then source and sink will negotiate on CC1 or CC2 line, and the final standard voltage will be 5V/9V/15V/20V.

The circuit design for TPS65982 uesd as a DFP, DRP or UFP can be the same, and you can refer to TPS65982EVM . It can be configured as a DFP/DRP/UFP through TPS6598x Configuration Tool which can be downloaded from TI website. For your application as a sink, you can configure as the picture below.

Also, an FTDI board is needed to configure the TPS65982EVM and is not integrated in TPS65982EVM board, so we would recommend TPS65981EVM which has 5V/9V/15V/20V output voltage and integrates an FTDI board for your application.

I hope this helps and answers your question, PLEASE select This resolved my issue

    Best Regards,
