TPL7407LA: solenoid counter emf question

Part Number: TPL7407LA

Hi expert,

My customer want to use TPL7407LA in their solenoid application and solenoid spec is 15V/1.5A. And they are wondering if TPL7407LA could solve the counter emf(peak voltage). Could we use datasheet figure 8 to explain it would not have a big spike on OUT pin? Or do we have test result on solenoid application?

Please kindly let me know if there is anything i need to provide, thanks!!

Best regards,

Ann Lien

  • Hi Ann,

The TPL7407LA has an integrated flyback diode from each of the outputs to the COM supply of the device. This diode will limit the peak current when switching off an inductive load. At 15V, the device should not see enough voltage spiking to reach its 30V maximum and damage the device. Also note that for 1.5A multiple channels will need to be paralleled.

    Thanks,
