TPS2549: CURRENT LIMIT

Part Number: TPS2549

Hi Team,

I would like to know the operation of OUT short-circuit current limit circuit.

If set with R (ILIM_HI) = 20 kΩ, current limit is applied between 2500 mA and 2840 mA.

What is the output continuous current value when current limit is applied?

Likewise, please let me know if R (ILIM_LO) = 80.6 kΩ.

Best Regards,

Kenji

  • Hello Kenji-san,

"What is the output continuous current value when current limit is applied?"

If I am understanding the question correctly, the continuous current value is determined by the portable device connected to the TPS2549. For example, if you set the current limit to 2.5A, but the portable device only needs to sink 1.5A of current, then only 1.5A of current will be supplied. However, if you set the limit to 1.0A and the device needs to sink 1.5A of current, then the TPS2549 will current limit the supply to only 1.0A.

"please let me know if R (ILIM_LO) = 80.6 kΩ"

The resistor values connected to either of the ILIM_LO or ILIM_HI pins is determined based on what current level you want to set. So there is no true right or wrong value for these. The figure that refer to determine these values is Figure 42 in the datasheet. If the customer is wanting to have a current limit close to 500mA with ILIM_LO, then yes, 80.6k is a good resistor value. If they are wanting to limit higher or lower, then refer to Figure 42 to determine what value to choose.
