SN65HVD1781: What's purpose of pull high resistor at R pin?

Part Number: SN65HVD1781

Dear expert,

Could you help me to understand why we need a pull high resistor(10K-ohm) at R pin in datasheet figure 17?

Thanks!

  • Hello,

This pull-up resistor is not required for operation of the transceiver, but can be useful if the application expects the "R" pin to remain high while the receiver is disabled (which would occur in this case whenever the "DIR" control is high). Since pulling /RE high makes the receiver output high impedance, a weak external resistor can be used to establish a high-level bias.
