Ethernet PHYs IEEE1588 PTP or SOF ?

Hi everyone,

While searching Ethernet PHYs with IEEE1588 support on TI website, I saw that there are PHYs with IEEE1588 SOF support and others with IEEE1588 PTP support.

What is the difference between SOF and PTP ?

Hi RWIN,

The ethernet PHYs with IEEE1588 PTP support include hardware time stamping within the PHY itself. IEEE1588 SFD support is when the PHY creates an interrupt for indicating start of frame which can be used by the MAC to time stamp packets.
