TPS65986: About PP_CABLE

Part Number: TPS65986

Hi Teams,

In the configuration that does not supply power from DFP to UFP, is it necessary to supply 5 V to PP_CABLE in order to execute AlternateMode?

I would like to know the peak current and the maximum current consumption value when 5 V is supplied to PP_CABLE.

And please tell me the Max current consumption of IVIN_3 V3 Active. (I know TYP 5.64 mA)

Best Regards,

Kenji

  • Hi Kenji-san,

VCONN is required for some cables that are powered by VCONN. For example, if the cable is active or has an e-marker in it. The cable would need to be powered by VCONN to received that information. The 5V supply on PP_CABLE is used as the VCONN Supply. The maximum current consumption on PP_CABLE would be 600mA.

For IVIN_3V3 Active, the maximum current consumption is variable depending on GPIO usage and I2C traffic. This is why the datasheet does not specify a value for the max.

  • Hi Eric,

    Thank you for your answer.
    I have an additional question.
I would like to know the average consumption current value of each of PP_CABLE.
    · When power is supplied to the active cable(It's OK with rough values)
    · When acquiring information from eMarker
    · In steady state after establishing communication with AlternateMode

    Kenji
  • Hi Kenji,

    · When power is supplied to the active cable(It's OK with rough values)

This value depends on the features of the cables. These would be the largest consumers of the three cases you mentioned. This can be in the hundreds of mA.

    · When acquiring information from eMarker

This is relatively low, probably in the tens of mA.

    · In steady state after establishing communication with AlternateMode

Depending on if the cable is active or just e-marked this value can change. If it is e-marked and done with communication, probably in the uA. If it is active and being used in a steady state, probably in the 10s to 100s of mA.
