Hello.

I’m designing a USB OTG port with an I.MX6 platform.

Is there any design reference for protecting my CPU when in “Device” mode select?

I want to protect my CPU from a 5V external supply when in device mode, and enable my VBUS 5V output when in “Host” mode.

Hi Gilad,

I'm not sure what exact protection you would like. Do you need Short-to-VBUS protection on the CC, SBU, and D+/- channels? Or just protection on the VBUS power paths?

We have several EVM System level designs with our PD controllers and Protection devices. For starters, Feel free to look at the EVM user's guide for the TPS65981: http://www.ti.com/tool/TPS65981EVM.

Hi Aramis.
I was actually refering to tpd4s214 or a compatible component. the tpd4s214 has a 0.4 pitch and thats too small for my application.
Are you familiar with some other parts that may be suitable as USB OTG companion device?

DO you require high voltage OVP on VBUS? There may be some options that are 5V only, but I am not aware of any 0.5 pitch parts with high voltage OVP to match the tpd4s214.

Don't need a high OVP on VBUS. just current limit. 5V only on VBUS is OK.

GIlad,

I looked through our available parts, and the TPD4S214 is the only part that provides USB OTG detection and protection. Any solution that I can offer you in a larger pitch will require an external detection circuit. This will be a comparator that will detect a VBUS voltage is present on the line that is not compatible with the USB OTG specification.

If this is an acceptable solution for you, I will be happy to send you a prototype circuit.
