Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9546A
Hello,
The TCA9544A Datasheet and Webpage descriptions are incorrect. The TCA9544A is an I2C Mux (contrast with Switch), its control register selects one of 4 downstream ports to connect to the upstream port -- that is a 1 to 1 connection. However the Description section (clearly a cut and paste from TCA9546A) incorrectly reads:
... Any individual SCn/SDn channel or combination of channels can be selected, determined by the contents of the programmable control register. ...
The above phrase in red should be expunged.
The same error is repeated in section 9.1 Overview:
The TCA9544A is a 4-channel, bidirectional translating I2C switch. The master SCL/SDA signal pair is directed to four channels of slave devices, SC0/SD0-SC3/SD3. Any individual downstream channel can be selected as well as any combination of the four channels.
This section should be revised to read:
The TCA9544A is a 4-channel, bidirectional translating I2C Muliplexer. The master SCL/SDA signal pair is directed to one of the four channels of slave devices, SC0/SD0-SC3/SD3. Any individual downstream channel can be selected as well as any combination of the four channels.
Similar errors exist in the webpage description.
Please correct these errors -- they are a source of much confusion...
Regards,
