TPS65986: Sink PDO Minimum Current

Part Number: TPS65986

Hi Team,

Quick question regarding the TPS65986.

Given the sink PDO shown belowand a cable from a legacy USB Type A connector (5V, 0.5A) that has been plugged into our USB-C connector, will the ‘986 pass the 5V through even though the source is limited to 0.5A or will it not pass 5V through since the source doesn’t meet the 0.9A minimum current that we’ve specified?  I think the available current is communicated via the CC pull-up and pull-down resistors.

Regards,

Hayden

  • Hi Hayden,

I just tested out this with the TPS65981EVM, having the PDO configuration you shared, as well as having BC1.2 detection disabled, and the internal FET connected to PPHV closes. So 5V will be put on VBUS, pass through the internal FET, and 5V will be detected on the other side.
