DP83TC811S-Q1: DP83TC811S-Q1 application issue

Part Number: DP83TC811S-Q1

Dear TI:

   Two questions about DP83TC811S-Q1:

1, Customer used SGMII mode , how to set the PIN 25,26,27,28,29,30,31,34,14,15, Let these pins float or resistor/cap to ground?

2, Can DP83TC811S-Q1 can detect DP and DN  open, or short to ground ,or short to each other?

 Thanks!

  • Hi Eric,

A1) You can leave the pins float. You can add a cap option to ground on RX_CLK and TX_CLK if you want an option for decoupling the clock signals.
This could help improve your emissions if you see 25MHz spurs.

A2) The device can detect pin to pin short and pin open. Because the interface is isolated (DC blocking caps), if you have a supply or ground short, you will see a momentary disruption in signal quality, which can be observed by the SQI/SNR tool. However, the link will reestablish (as it should) since the biasing on the isolated side will not change the differential signaling after the short reaches steady state.
