DS90UB954-Q1: 16bit register address for I2C

Part Number: DS90UB954-Q1

Hi team,

I have a question for 16bit register address for I2C.

Our customer will use the device has 16bit register address as remote slave I2C.

The host CPU issues instructions in the order of 8bit device ID, 8bit upper register address, and 8bit lower register address in that order.

It is an image of the picture below.

I believe that SERDES does not interfere with this data format and that the addresses and data that the host has written can be sent directly to the remote I2C.

Is this right?

Best regards,

Tomoaki Yoshida

  • Tomoaki,

Yes, SERDES does not interfere with this data format. Please note host CPU and remote slave need to support clock (SCL) stretching for remote slave accesses. The SERDES acts as virtual bridge between host controller and the remote devices. This is explained in Data Sheet section 7.5.1. Also, you can refer following app notes: SNLA222 and SNLA131

    Thanks,
