TUSB1064: DisplayPort source for TUSB1064/564

Part Number: TUSB1064

Hi,

I'm designing system having DP sink through Type C connector and found TUSB1064/564 could be placed to sink side as active crosspoint switch, redriver and solution for cable flip. System will be fixed as 4 lane DisplayPort alternate mode supporting UFP config case "C" only. It's use case "9.3.3 DisplayPort Only" from the data sheet.

However, it's a bit unclear can this component work straightly from the native DP source also? With DP to Type C adaptation of course.

I would like to continue discussion via email if possible so system details could be shared more in detail.

BR,

  • Juha,

TUSB1064 can work with a native DP source. Normally a PD controller and USB host work together to configure TUSB1064 correctly. This would handle the flip capability and lane mapping associated with the Type C side of the application (handled over the CC lines).

  • Hi,

Thanks for your response. It's now understood we can support native DP port, although it's a bit unclear what PD will react in this case and is cable flip also supported. Cables adapters might also have some internal PD chip so my guess is yes.

I have another question related to fixed 4 lane DP alternate mode. In DS Figure 12. USB3.1 to 4-Lane DisplayPort in GPIO Mode there is a 4us timing requirement for CTL1&0 pins when entering DP mode.
However, if configuration is fixed to to 4 lane DP mode, is it possible to use pull up / pull down configuration for CTL1 and CTL0 pins, so in boot up it would not be in USB mode at all? Obviously this timing requirement for entry would not be ever filled.

  • Hi,

Sorry for the late response. Yes this timing is a hard requirement for TUSB1064 due to the internal state machine.
